Exterior cleaning for the whole house, booked as one job

Most homes do not go green in one place. The roof collects moss, the north wall picks up algae, the fascias turn grey and the gutters fill with what slides off the tiles. Exterior cleaning means dealing with all of those surfaces together, in the right order, so the house looks finished rather than patchy.

We clean the outside of homes across Bedfordshire and the surrounding counties as a single package or surface by surface. This page explains what a whole-house clean covers, the order the work is done in and how to decide whether you need all of it.

What exterior house cleaning covers

01

Roof: moss lifted by hand, gutters cleared of the debris, biocide applied at low pressure.

02

Render: algae and dirt treated with a soft wash suited to the render system.

03

Cladding and uPVC: boards and trims washed at low pressure so the finish is not scratched.

04

Gutters, fascias and soffits: runs emptied, downpipes checked, boards washed.

Why the order matters

Exterior cleaning works from the top down. Moss and run-off from the roof end up in the gutters and streak down the walls, so cleaning the render first and the roof second simply means cleaning the render twice. We start on the roof, clear the gutters of everything that falls, wash the fascias and soffits, and finish with the walls and cladding.

Doing it in one visit also shares the access. Ladders and equipment go up once, the garden is protected once, and you are not waiting between separate bookings for different parts of the same house.

House washing without a pressure washer

A lot of house washing is still done with a high-pressure lance. On roof tiles that strips the surface and drives water under the laps. On render it can thin the top coat, lift the colour from through-coloured render and push water behind the finish. On uPVC it can leave the plastic dull and scored.

Our approach is different. Roofs are cleaned by hand and never pressure washed. Walls, cladding and trims are cleaned with a low-pressure soft wash, where a cleaning solution does the work and gentle rinsing carries it away. Planting and glazing are protected throughout.

Exterior wall cleaning and what to expect

Green algae on render usually lifts on the day. Black spotting and older staining can take longer, fading over the following weeks as the treatment keeps working and rain rinses the dead growth away. That gradual change is normal and we will tell you up front which parts of your walls are likely to behave that way.

If a wall has cracks, blown render or failed sealant, we photograph it and point it out. Cleaning does not repair render, and a soft wash will not hide damage that is already there.

Do you need every surface done?

Not always. A newer house with a clean roof may only need the render and fascias. An older roof under trees may need the roof and gutters but not the walls. We look at photographs or visit for free, and quote only for the surfaces that actually need it.

If you are thinking about selling, letting or simply want the house to look cared for, a whole-house clean is the quickest way to change how it looks from the street.

Choosing an exterior cleaning company

Ask how each surface will be cleaned, not just whether it will be. A company that pressure washes roofs and render is offering a different service from one that hand cleans and soft washes. Ask whether the team is insured for work at height, whether gutters are included after the roof, and whether you will see photographs of the roof condition. We are a fully insured, family-run team based in Ampthill, and every quote is free with no obligation.

Questions we get asked

What is exterior house cleaning?

It is cleaning the outside surfaces of a home together: the roof, render or cladding, gutters, fascias and soffits. We clean roofs by hand and use a low-pressure soft wash on walls, cladding and trims.

What do exterior cleaning services include?

Ours can include hand roof cleaning with biocide treatment, gutter clearing, fascia and soffit washing, render cleaning and cladding or uPVC soft washing. You can book all of them or only the surfaces that need it.

What is exterior cleaning?

Exterior cleaning means removing moss, algae, lichen and dirt from the outside of a building so the surfaces last longer and look cared for. The method should suit each surface, which is why we never pressure wash roofs or render.

What exterior cleaner do you use on render and cladding?

We use a low-pressure soft wash with a cleaning solution matched to the surface, followed by gentle rinsing. It treats the growth rather than blasting it off.

How long does a whole-house exterior clean take?

It depends on the size of the house and which surfaces are included. We confirm the expected time when we quote, and most of the work is done in one visit.

In short

Exterior house cleaning covers the roof, gutters, fascias, render and cladding, done top down in one visit. Roofs are cleaned by hand, walls and trims are soft washed, and nothing is pressure washed.
