Exterior cleaning cost: what changes a whole-house quote?
Exterior cleaning cost depends first on what is being cleaned. A roof treatment, a render wash and a full outside clean are not interchangeable jobs. Before comparing figures, define the surfaces and the result you want, including whether drainage or appearance is the main concern.
This guide looks at the combined house-cleaning quote rather than repeating a price guide for each individual service. It explains how roof, wall and roofline work fit together, what makes quotations differ and how to avoid comparing a partial clean with a broader package.
Make a surface list before asking for a price
List the roof, render or cladding, gutters, fascias and soffits separately. Include a driveway or conservatory roof only if you want those considered too. Our whole-house exterior clean can also be discussed surface by surface, depending on what needs attention.
Describe what you see on each surface: moss cushions, green film, dark staining, dirty roofline boards or gutters overflowing in rain. The same house can have several different cleaning needs. A single label such as house wash does not tell a company which methods or stages are required.
Area and access are different factors
A larger surface generally means more work, but size alone does not explain the quote. Height, roof pitch, narrow passages and extensions affect how work is reached. A modest area above a conservatory can require more planning than an open wall of the same size.
Send wide photographs that show the surroundings as well as close views taken safely from the ground. Mention restricted sides or shared access. Those details help the company assess the job without assuming that every visible surface is equally straightforward to reach.
Condition determines the cleaning stages
Thick roof moss calls for physical removal as well as treatment. Light organic staining may need a different approach. Blocked gutters need clearance and flow checks, while the exterior boards may need washing even when the gutter itself drains.
On render or cladding, our softwash approach uses a treatment suited to the surface. Cracks, failed finishes or other defects should be raised separately because cleaning is not a repair. A quotation that recognises condition is more informative than one based only on square metres.
Compare methods as well as totals
We clean roofs by hand without high-pressure washing and use low-pressure softwash methods for walls, render and cladding. A quotation based on a different process is not automatically the same offer simply because it names the same surfaces.
Ask which stages are included for each part of the house. For a roof, distinguish moss removal, biocide and gutter clearance. For the roofline, distinguish emptying the run from washing the fascia and soffit. This makes the price comparison about the work rather than a headline figure alone.
Why combining surfaces can change the scope
Exterior cleaning works from the top down. Roof debris can reach gutters and the areas below, so the sequence matters when several surfaces are cleaned. Planning the work together can avoid washing a lower surface before material is removed from above.
That does not mean every house needs every available service. Ask for the surfaces actually requiring attention and for optional work to be distinguished from the main quote. A combined scope should clarify the job, not turn a single problem into an assumed whole-house booking.
What a useful exterior cleaning quotation explains
Look for the included surfaces, method, access and treatment stages. Check whether gutters and downpipes are covered and whether a gradual result is expected for old algae or lichen staining. A clearly described outcome prevents a same-day visual change being compared with treatment that continues to weather off.
Use the individual roof, gutter or render cost guides if one surface is driving the enquiry. For a whole-house job, compare the complete written scope. Knowing what the proposed clean includes is more useful than comparing an average exterior wash cost with a different scope.
Prepare a straightforward enquiry
Send your postcode or town and photographs from safe ground positions. Explain the main concern and list the other surfaces you would like considered. If you already have a quote, compare its stated stages rather than assuming the total describes the same job.
Our enquiry form can be used for a free, no-obligation quote. You do not need to choose chemicals, work out roof access or climb up to measure the covering before asking. The aim is an individual proposal based on the building and the cleaning it needs.

Questions we get asked
How much is exterior house cleaning?
The surfaces, area, access, condition and cleaning stages determine the quotation. Define the scope before comparing totals.
Is there one exterior cleaning price list for every house?
A fixed list cannot describe every combination of roof, wall and roofline work. Ask for an individual scope and quote.
What changes the cost of house washing?
Height, restricted access, surface material, organic growth and whether removal, treatment and gutter work are included all matter.
Should I book every exterior surface together?
Only if those surfaces need attention. Our whole-house approach can be discussed surface by surface, with the work planned in a sensible order.
How do I compare two exterior cleaning prices?
Check that they include the same surfaces, methods, access and treatment or drainage stages. A partial clean and a whole-house job are not equivalent.
The practical decision
Compare the included surfaces and stages before the total. A useful quotation reflects the building, access, condition and the result you need.
