What changes the cost of a gutter clean
Short answer: gutter cleaning is priced on the length of guttering, the height it sits at, and how badly blocked it is. A single-storey run of clear gutter with a bit of leaf litter is a short job. A two-storey rear elevation packed with compacted silt, moss and seedlings takes far longer, and that difference is what you see between quotes.
Downpipes are the other variable people forget. Clearing gutters without checking that the downpipes actually run is half a job, so the time to test and clear them belongs in the price.
The main cost factors
- Total run length, measured around the whole property rather than just the front elevation.
- Height, since two and three-storey runs need longer ladder work or pole systems and more careful set-up.
- What is in the gutter: loose leaves clear fast, compacted silt and rooted moss do not.
- Number of downpipes, hoppers and outlets that need testing and clearing.
- Access along each elevation, including conservatories, extensions, fragile roofs below and boundary fences.
- Whether fascia and soffit cleaning is included at the same time, which is usually cheaper done together than as a separate visit.
Why doing gutters with a roof clean saves money
Cleaning a roof pushes moss and debris down towards the eaves, so gutters need clearing afterwards anyway. Booking both together means one set-up, one visit and one team on site, which is why combined quotes usually come in below the two jobs priced separately.
It also protects the work. Blocked gutters keep the eaves line permanently damp, and damp eaves are exactly where moss re-establishes first after a clean.
What our gutter quotes cover
A full clear-out of the runs quoted, a downpipe check, and a tidy-up at ground level. We are fully insured and family-run, our vans are signwritten and our team is uniformed, so you know who has turned up. Quotes are free and carry no obligation.

Questions we get asked
Do you charge by the metre for guttering?
Run length is the starting point, but height, blockage type and the number of downpipes all change the time on site, so we quote the property rather than a rate per metre.
Is it cheaper to book gutters with a roof clean?
Normally yes, because it is one visit and one set-up rather than two, and the gutters need clearing after a roof clean in any case.
Do you clear downpipes as well?
Yes. We test and clear downpipes as part of the job, because clearing the gutter alone does not fix water that cannot get away.
How often should gutters be done?
Most properties suit an annual clear, and homes under trees often need one after autumn leaf fall as well. Our gutter cleaning frequency guide goes into this in more detail.
Summary
Run length, height, blockage type and downpipe count set a gutter cleaning price. Booking gutters alongside a roof clean is normally cheaper than two separate visits.
