Choosing between a local team and a national operation
Roof cleaning is sold two very different ways. One is a local business whose own people do the work. The other is a sales operation that books the job and allocates it to whoever is available in your postcode that week.
Both can produce a good result. The difference shows up in who is accountable when something is not right, and in how the price is arrived at in the first place.
Questions that separate the two quickly
- Will the person quoting be on site doing the work, or passing it to a crew?
- Whose insurance covers the work at height, the company you are speaking to or a subcontractor's?
- Is the price fixed today or does it change once someone has actually seen the roof?
- If a tile is damaged or a gutter still leaks, who comes back, and how soon?
- Are the vehicles and clothing on site branded with the name you booked?
Sales pressure is the usual tell
A price that is only valid today, a discount that appears when you hesitate, or a survey that turns into a two-hour presentation are all signs the business model is selling rather than cleaning.
Our quotes are free, carry no obligation and do not expire in an afternoon. If you want to think about it for a month, the figure will still be honest when you come back.
What being local actually changes
We are family-run and based in Ampthill, working across Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Northamptonshire and Oxfordshire. That means we know which local roofs green up on the north side because of tree cover and which estates have the shallow pitches that hold water.
It also means coming back is easy rather than a logistics problem. Local reputation is not a marketing line when your vans are signwritten and parked outside houses in the same towns every week.
Talk to the people who do the work
Ring or message and you will speak to the family that runs the business, not a booking centre.

What to check on any company, including us
Ask for evidence of public liability insurance, ask how the work at height will be carried out and with what equipment, and ask what the guarantee covers in writing rather than in conversation.
Our full roof cleans carry a written 24-month biocide guarantee, we are fully insured, and the team that turns up is uniformed and ours. Any company should be able to answer those three questions without hesitating.

Questions we get asked
Are national companies more expensive?
Not always, but a sales-led model has costs to cover before anyone reaches your roof. What matters more is whether the quote survives contact with the actual property.
How do I know who will actually do the work?
Ask directly, and ask whose insurance applies. With us it is our own uniformed team in our own signwritten vans.
Should I get several quotes?
Yes, and compare scope rather than headline price. A cheaper quote that excludes gutters, waste or treatment is not cheaper.
Does the guarantee mean anything if the firm disappears?
That is exactly why a written guarantee from an established local business is worth more than a verbal promise from a call centre.
In short
Ask who does the work, whose insurance covers it, whether the price survives a site visit and who returns if something is wrong. Pressure selling answers the question for you.
