How to choose a roof cleaning company sensibly
Roof cleaning is a loosely regulated trade, and the range of methods, equipment and pricing between companies offering what looks like the same service can be considerable. Choosing well matters more here than for many home services, because a poor choice can leave a roof worse off than before, not just badly finished.

Reasonable ways to judge a company
A company that talks through method and explains why they avoid pressure washing on roof tiles, rather than simply quoting a price, is generally worth more confidence than one offering a fast, cheap number with no detail. Similarly, a company willing to say a job might not be straightforward — because of pitch, condition or access — before you have committed, is showing the kind of honesty that tends to carry through into the actual work.
Be cautious of quotes that seem significantly below others for a comparable roof without an explanation, since the difference is often in the method, the equipment used, or whether treatment is genuinely included.
What we would not put much weight on
Dramatic before-and-after photos alone tell you little about the method used or how the roof will hold up in a year's time — a pressure-washed roof can look just as dramatic in an immediate after photo as a properly hand-cleaned one, with the difference only showing up later. Judge a company on how they explain their process, not just on how striking their marketing looks.
