Process guide

Preparing your property for a roof clean

Short answer: clear the ground under the roof, make sure we can get to every elevation, and leave an outside tap and a parking space available. That is most of it.

Ten minutes of preparation the evening before makes the job quicker, keeps your garden in better shape, and occasionally keeps the cost down too.

The evening before

  • Move cars off the drive or away from the elevations being worked on.
  • Move pots, garden furniture, bikes and bins out from under the eaves.
  • Close windows and skylights, and pull in anything drying outside.
  • Unlock side gates, or let us know where the key is.
  • Cover or move delicate planting directly beneath the working area, though we sheet the ground as well.
  • Keep pets indoors for the day, particularly if they use the garden freely.

What we need from the property

Access to an outside tap is helpful for softwashing, though we can work around it if there is not one. We need enough space to park close to the property for equipment, and a clear run for ladders along each elevation being worked.

If the rear of the property is only reachable through a neighbour's garden, please have that conversation with them in advance. It is the single most common thing that delays a booked job.

On the day

Our uniformed team arrives in signwritten vans, walks the property with you, sets up ground protection and an exclusion zone, then works methodically across the roof. You do not need to be home all day, but it helps to be there at the start and the end so we can show you what we found and hand the site back tidy.

Questions we get asked

Do I need to be home?

Not for the whole day. It is useful to be there at the start so we can agree the plan, and at the end so we can show you the work and anything we found.

Will you need my water and electricity?

An outside tap is helpful for softwashing. We can usually work around it if there is not one available, so tell us in advance.

What about my plants?

We sheet the ground beneath the working area, and we would ask you to move pots and anything portable so we can protect the rest properly.

How long will you be on site?

Most domestic roofs are completed in one to two days depending on size and how much growth there is. Our timing guide covers this in more detail.
