What to expect on the day your roof is cleaned
Most people booking a roof clean have never had one done before and are not sure what to plan for. This page walks through a typical visit from arrival to finish, so there are no surprises about noise, access, or what you need to do beforehand.
None of it is complicated from your side — the main thing worth doing in advance is clearing a route to the roof and letting us know about anything that might affect access, such as a locked side gate or a car that needs to be moved.
Before we arrive
- Move vehicles away from likely ladder or equipment positions if you can.
- Let us know about pets that might be unsettled by activity outside.
- Mention any fragile planting, garden features or conservatories near the working area.
- Make sure gates or side access we need are unlocked, or let us know if we need a key.
During the visit
The first part of any visit is set-up: protecting anything below the roof, positioning ladders or access equipment, and planning the route across the roof. Cleaning follows, working pitch by pitch, clearing moss and debris by hand from the ridge down towards the eaves, so material falls away from work already done rather than back over it.
Once a pitch has been cleared, treatment is applied where it forms part of the job. You do not need to stay indoors, but we would ask that you keep pets and children away from the immediate working area and any ground sheeting while equipment is up.
After we finish
Gutters are usually checked as part of finishing up, since a clean roof will often shed debris that had been sitting on the tiles. We clear the working area of debris and equipment before leaving. The roof itself may still show some residual staining that continues to lighten over the following weeks as treatment weathers in, which is entirely normal and not a sign the job is incomplete.

Questions we get asked
Do I need to be home during the work?
Not necessarily, provided we have agreed access beforehand and can reach a water point if needed. Many customers are out during the visit.
Is the work noisy?
Hand cleaning and low-pressure treatment are considerably quieter than pressure washing equipment, though there is inevitably some activity noise from ladders, brushes and general set-up.
What if my neighbours are affected by the work?
We keep debris and equipment within your property boundary wherever possible and are happy to have a word with neighbours in advance if a shared access route or driveway is involved.
Will my roof look completely spotless the moment you leave?
It will look dramatically better, but some residual staining from treatment is normal and continues to lighten over the following weeks as it weathers.
